Transforming Hospice and Palliative Care: Announcing Elea Institute’s 2024 Grants

At the Elea Institute, we believe in the power of strategic funding to drive meaningful change in hospice and palliative care. This year, the Elea Institute is proud to allocate six grants that are pivotal in our mission to expand access to high-quality care, support patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers.

Promoting Improved Access to Quality Care

One of Elea Institute’s primary objectives is to remove obstacles that prevent patients from receiving hospice and palliative care. Elea is proud to fund two grants for Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care that bolster their pediatric expansion, as well as provide resources for maintenance, equipment, and staffing. By investing in advanced care planning and comprehensive training for caregivers, we aim to create an environment where patients can receive compassionate and effective care in the comfort of their own homes.

Advancing Research, Education, and Training

Innovation is the cornerstone of progress in healthcare. This year, Elea Institute awarded four grants that equip healthcare providers with the skills and knowledge needed to deliver the highest standards of care while exploring new care opportunities. The Elea Institute partnered with Home Centered Care Institute to launch an innovation awards program that encourages Illinois hospice and palliative care organizations to implement chronic care management (CCM) in their service lines. We awarded Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care with crucial funding to implement musical therapy services for pediatric patients.

Elea Institute worked with the Illinois Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (IL-HPCO) to provide financial resources necessary to increase their education services and supporting requirements. Finally, Elea Institute is supporting Loyola University Medical Center to expand their palliative care team and provide important trainings.

The Elea Institute is advancing the hospice and palliative care field through projects that bolster the health care workforce and prioritize education, ultimately improving patient outcomes and quality of life.

Increasing End of Life Care Awareness

Awareness and advocacy are crucial components of our mission. Our 2024 grants include initiatives designed to elevate these discussions to a national level, advocating for policy reforms that enhance access and affordability. By identifying solutions to improve care quality, we strive to create a healthcare system that is both equitable and sustainable. The Elea Institute is focused on ensuring that the needs and voices of those facing serious illnesses are at the forefront of policy and regulatory conversations.

The Elea Institute’s vision is to ensure comprehensive, high-quality hospice and palliative care for all patients. The 2024 grants are a testament to our commitment to this vision, supporting innovative projects that align with our core objectives. As we look to the future, the Elea Institute remains dedicated to leading the national effort to expand hospice and palliative care access. Through our grants, research, educational resources, and advocacy, we will continue to support patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers, ensuring that end-of-life care is met with dignity, compassion, and comfort.
