Introducing Elea Institute: Leading the Future of Hospice and Palliative Care

Elea Institute was founded on a simple but profound conviction: that every person, regardless of where they live or what resources they have, deserves access to compassionate, high-quality hospice and palliative care at the end of life. Today, we are proud to share our story—where we come from, what we stand for, and what we are building together.

Who We Are

Elea Institute emerged from a 2015 merger of hospice organizations serving the Chicagoland region and was formally established in 2022 following Addus HomeCare's acquisition of JourneyCare's hospice services. Born from that transition, Elea is now a national organization working to expand access to quality hospice and palliative care across the country.

Our name draws from Elea, the ancient Greek city known as a place of philosophical inquiry—a fitting reflection of our commitment to thoughtful, evidence-based approaches to some of healthcare's most complex challenges.

Our Three Strategic Pillars

Research

Educational Resources

Strategic Partnerships

Elea Institute distributes grants to organizations that share our vision and focuses on empowering patients and caregivers to navigate the healthcare system effectively. We prioritize removing barriers to care through targeted investments in innovative programs and advance care planning. We provide training resources for caregivers and equip healthcare providers with current industry insights, and our research efforts guide policy discussions and elevate end-of-life care issues at a national level.

Our Values

Everything we do is grounded in three core values: Dignity, Compassion, and Comfort. These are not abstract ideals—they are the standards against which we measure every grant we award, every partnership we form, and every initiative we undertake.

Looking Ahead

Elea Institute remains committed to expanding access to high-quality hospice and palliative care through continued research, education, advocacy, and partnerships. The challenges are significant—too many patients still lack access to the care they need and deserve—but so is the momentum. We are proud to be part of a growing movement to ensure that every person's final chapter is met with the dignity, compassion, and comfort they deserve.

We invite you to join us.
