National Hospice and Palliative Care Month: A Reflection

National Hospice and Palliative Care Month serves as both an acknowledgment of the progress our field has made and a recognition of the ongoing challenges that remain. Providers nationwide continue to face mounting demand alongside staffing shortages and systemic gaps in meeting patient needs—challenges that remind us how much work lies ahead.

This year, Elea Institute participated in two international convenings focused on developing models that serve patients more effectively. These gatherings brought together global leaders in hospice and palliative care, offering fresh perspectives and innovative approaches that can inform our work here at home. We are proud to play a convening role in these critical conversations.

We also continued supporting grants that strengthen access to care through resource development and innovative processes. Our grantees provide invaluable insights into the real priorities of patients and caregivers on the ground—insights that shape our strategy and deepen our commitment to meaningful, lasting change.

Collaboration and research remain at the heart of how we accelerate progress in this field. Global conversations inform domestic solutions, and every partnership we forge helps establish the groundwork for sustained improvement in serious illness care.

As we reflect on the past year and look to the one ahead, Elea Institute remains steadfast in facilitating dialogue and advancing the field. We are proud to be a convener, and we look forward to continuing this important work.
