Elea Institute Awards Its First Charity Care Grant
Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care will use the funds to support pediatric initiatives.

Elea Institute is proud to award its first charity care grant to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care, a nonprofit hospice and palliative care provider located in Joliet, Illinois. Lightways will utilize this funding to provide care to its expanding community of pediatric patients and meet the growing need for uncompensated care.

“Lightways has set a number of exceptional goals for its pediatric program in the coming year, including providing care to more than one hundred pediatric patients. In addition, the agency is committed to providing care to any pediatric patient in need of services, regardless of ability to pay or insurance status,” said Kent Mathy, Chair of Elea Institute’s Board of Directors.

Lightways is one of the only pediatric hospice and serious illness care providers in northern Illinois. Its care teams provide medical, nursing, psychosocial, and spiritual care for their pediatric patients who have been diagnosed with conditions and diseases such as epilepsy, seizures, brain malformations, cerebral palsy, spastic quadriplegia, cancer, and chromosome disorders, among others.

“Elea Institute values the opportunity to support Lightways’ efforts to offer critically important hospice and palliative care services to pediatric patients.  These goals are consistent with Elea Institute’s mission.” added Mathy.
